Feeling Discouraged, But Still Determined

Just a few days ago, I had a cyst removed from my jaw after delaying the surgery for quite awhile. From what the oral surgeon told me, the cyst was about the size of a half-dollar coin (roughly 1-inch — that’s a big one!). I’m going to a follow- up appointment in the next couple of weeks to determine what type of cyst it was and what type of treatment I need. Right now, my jaw is still swollen and has some numbness on my lower left lip and chin.
I’ve been advised by my family members that I need to lay low on the half-marathon training because I still have stitches in my jaw. Despite the fact that the doctor didn’t tell me if I can work out or not (and I was still knocked-up from the general anesthesia that day), I ended up doing a power-walk/light jog yesterday for about 3-miles. Not a lot, but at least I took advantage of the mild 50-degree weather. For every half-mile, I walked then jogged to see if the movements aggravate the stitches. Luckily, my jaw felt fine.
This week I will continue a light jog for 3-4 days. The Miles for Music 20K race is on March 11 and I don’t want this little setback deter my progress.
Twitter Background Design…Coolest Skill to Have!

Tonight I just designed my own custom background for my Twitter account (@yveniaB). This is actually the first time I ever did one and it’s definitely a challenge. It’s a simple design and it serves a purpose. The downside is that it’s too bad Twitter doesn’t have the capability to link the background image to any site you want. If you know of any way to do that, please comment below.
Feel free to check it out here or click on the graphic on the left.
If you want to create your own Twitter background, there are plenty of tutorials on the Internet, including this one here. This site shows easy-to-follow instructions on how to create a simple Twitter background design using Photoshop.
Now that I accomplished that, I’m off to bed! Good night everybody!

- Web banner for the entrant log-in page (Banner Dimensions: 760 pixels x 222 pixels)

The concept behind the design was to reflect the elegance of an awards show. The Clarion logo was provided by AWC.

yvenia.com has a new look! I changed up the WordPress template for a more organized look and feel. In my opinion, the site will always be a work in progress, but I like this new WordPress theme more than the previous one. If you’re wondering, the theme is called “Fresh & Clean.” Plus, if you have any feedback on the site, comments are always welcome. I have a thick skin so I can take it! Happy viewing!

Client: Association for Women in Communications
The Association for Women in Communications (AWC) is a professional networking organization for women who work in various communications disciplines, such as journalism, corporate communications, graphic design, writing, editing, advertising and public relations.
I designed a flyer and postcard to promote the organization’s membership campaign. The flyer includes writable fields so that all chapters (both local and student chapters) across the country can update the flyer with their contact information.
