I Know it’s Late, But Happy New Year!

Happy Belated New Year! It’s been awhile since I updated this blog. Things have been pretty busy for me as of late.
To start things off — career-wise — I’m being more involved with the Association for Women in Communications (AWC) in both the local and national levels. I’ve been a member of the organization for about 8 years now. Since August 2011, I’m part of the board now as the co-VP of Marketing & Communications for the AWC – NJ Chapter. Plus, I’m involved in the National AWC Marketing & Committee as a volunteer/committee member. I have to admit, it’s a lot more work than I thought, but I’m learning so much by being more involved w/ AWC. If you’re in the communications industry, I highly recommend being a member in this organization. Click here to learn more about AWC and the NJ Chapter.
On a personal level, I’m training for a half-marathon coming up in April called the UNITE Half Marathon in New Brunswick. I just started training on 1/2/12 and so far so good. With the exception of this past week – work and AWC commitments – I’m somewhat consistent in my training. I actually have a personal goal in mind — running the NYC Marathon in 2013. In order for me to do that, I’m signing up for a few more races this year, including the Run Like A Diva half marathon in Long Island (October 2012) and Miles for Music 20K Race in NJ (March 2012). Hopefully I don’t overexert myself!
Since it’s a new year, I definitely need to focus on updating this blog. I’ve been SOOO behind on posting some stuff in my design and writing pages. At least I’m taking it easy today so that I can make those updates, including some AWC projects that I did.
Got some goals* for 2012? Let me know.
*By the way, I refuse to say “resolutions” because not a lot of us follow through on resolutions. “Goals” sound a lot better!
I’m Now A Runner…in Training!

One of the things I would like to accomplish from my bucket list was to run a marathon. It’s been a huge personal goal of mine for quite some time. I consider myself a fit person who wants to challenge myself. However, my only problem was I hated running. I remember during my high school years in field hockey doing sprints around the field, and that to me was unbearable. After really thinking about it, I finally decided to do it.
I just started running almost two months ago and I’m enjoying it so far. I finished my very first four-mile race on September 18 in Montclair, NJ for the Junior League of Montclair-Newark’s Children At Risk. It was hard, but it was worth the 5-6 weeks of training I did prior to the event. At 88th place (out of 105 racers) with a time of 41:01 minutes, I considered that a huge accomplishment for a newbie!
Sport-Memories.com just sent this link of photos they took of me at the event, as well as some random photos I took below.
That very first race was a first step in achieving my marathon goal, but I’m taking things slow so that I don’t overtrain myself. To help continue this momentum, I recently joined a running club in central NJ to train and to meet new people with similar goals like mine. Plus, I’m looking forward to sign up for the Unite Half-Marathon at Rutgers University on April 2012. This will be a huge journey in my life and I can’t wait to see where this goes.
Design | Wedding Wine Label

I was honored to be a co-Maid of Honor for my brother and future sister-in-law’s wedding. In addition to some of the MOH duties that I’m responsible for, such as hosting a wedding shower and bachelorette party (which by the way, still haven’t figured out where to go for that!), I also designed the couple’s wedding stationary, including their logo, invitations and Save-the-Date cards.
Here’s a wine label I created with the couple’s logo at their wedding shower in early September 2011. My aunt had a great idea of adding custom labels on wine bottles that she had stocked in her house (Yep, she and her husband make their own wine!). Once we showed the bottles, the results turned out amazing. The couple loved it, especially my future sis-in-law, which to be honest, I didn’t expect her to tear up.
By the way, this photo was taken by my cousin – the future photographer.

I updated the feature image with a banner template I created. I’m planning on using this template for all future feature images.
Added Some Banners…It’s Getting There!

Hey folks! I added some graphic banners for the Design and Writing Portfolio pages. You can check out the pages by clicking from the top navigation bar or go here:
As you can see, there’s still not a lot, but it’s getting there.
Plus, I even learned how to create a basic, fixed-width table. I don’t see anything in WordPress where you can press a button to create a table, but did a little research. If you’re interested in learning more, click here for the site where I learned about the fixed-width table.
I’m the type of person who likes the format to be even and clean. I’m not too crazy for the length of a sentence to be longer than the banner width (Just weird like that!).
